Read Better (“the Extension”) is designed to help users read web content with customizable highlighting and navigation features.

1. Data We Collect

Read Better does not collect, sell, or share personal data.

The Extension does not run a backend service and does not transmit browsing content to external servers.

2. Data Stored Locally

Read Better stores user preferences using Chrome storage (chrome.storage.sync), such as:

• activation mode
• movement mode
• read unit mode
• highlight scope and styles
• colors
• shortcut preferences
• motion preferences

These settings are stored in your browser profile and, if Chrome Sync is enabled, may sync through your Google account across your own signed-in browsers.

3. Website Content Access

Read Better runs as a content script on pages where it is enabled to:

• detect readable text sections
• apply visual highlights
• handle keyboard/mouse navigation

This processing occurs locally in your browser. Website text is not sent to us.

4. Permissions Used

Read Better requests:

• storage: save and load your settings
• tabs: identify the active tab for settings updates and “Report broken website” flow
• host_permissions (<all_urls>): operate on web pages you visit so highlighting/navigation can work

5. Third-Party Libraries

Read Better uses the Mozilla Readability library to identify readable article content. This processing is local to your browser session.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share user data with third parties.

7. Children’s Privacy

Read Better is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information.

8. Changes to This Policy

This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. Updates will be reflected by revising the effective date.
